Bollywood Mourns The Demise Of Santoor Maestro Shivkumar Sharma

Bollywood celebrities such as Singer Shreya Ghosal, Adnan Sami along with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, actor Kaaranvir Bohra mourns the demise of Santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma, who passed away due to cardiac arrest. 
 
Santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma has passed away. He had been suffering from kidney-related issues for the last six months and was on dialysis. He passed away due to cardiac arrest.
 
Singer Shreya Ghoshal took to her social media profile and wrote, “Very sad to know that the great Padma Vibhushan Pandit #ShivkumarSharma ji has left us for his heavenly abode. It’s the end of an era. My deepest condolences to his family” 
 
Expressing his grief, singer Adnan Sami shared, “I am devastated by the sad news of my Guru Pandit #ShivkumarSharma ji’s demise. I owe my Indian Classical Music education to him & he was an inspiration to me. He was not just the ‘Father of the Santoor’ but was also one of the greatest musicians of our times. RIP Shiv ji…”
 
Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur shared, “Amazing musician and composer.. a man that always was kind and forever smiling … the beautiful sounds from his #Santoor will forever be present in our hearts .. condolences to Rahul and all the family #ShivkumarSharma”
 
Actor Kaaranvir Bohra wrote, “Me as a child, bought a #santoor just because I had heard the Duo #shivhari ji in the film #chandni… the sound of that instrument will always remind me of you sir #ShivkumarSharma ji, rest in peace sir” 
 
Sharma gave santoor, once a little known instrument from Jammu and Kashmir, a classical status and exalted it along with other, more traditional and famous instruments such as sitar and sarod.
 
As one half of Shiv-Hari, he composed music with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia for an array of films such as Silsila, Lamhe and Chandni among others.
