Gandhi Jayanti Is A Beautiful Day Says Shruti Haasan
As India celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today, actress Shruti Haasan says it is a beautiful day and her father believes in Baapu’s philosophy.
Singer and actor Shruti Haasan was interacting with media on the sidelines of RPG Foundation program about women welfare in Mumbai.
Talking about Gandhi Jayanti, actress Shruti said, “It is just a beautiful day for our country. My father, Kamal Hassan believes in his philosophy and I think it is an important day and important part of our history”
Talking about the visiting the NGO, Shruti said, “When I heard about the work RPG Foundation is doing, I really liked it. Actually they have two programs, Sanjivani and Swayam, they deals in medical assistance, nursing assistance, and driving. See driving is a male dominate field and I think it is brilliant that they are empowering women to get into driving field and nursing. I think financial independence for a woman is really important”
When asked about women being oppressed in India, Shruti said, it is not a national issue but an international crisis.
She said, “Not just in this country, it is a worldwide issue. If you watch international news, this topic has come up many times. People are doing marches, protests are going on, and I really find it strange that people still needs to do all those things regarding issues like women safety, women equality, their rights. This has been going on for years now, there is indeed a little change but it is really sad that there are still issues and problems”
Meanwhile on the work front, Shruti will star opposite Vidyut Jammwal in an as-yet untitled film from Mahesh Manjrekar. She will also collaborate with her father on the trilingual adventure film Sabaash Naidu, a spin-off involving one of the characters in the 2008 film Dasavathaaram.
She is also part of “Laabam” an upcoming drama film written and directed by S. P. Jananathan, also starring Vijay Sethupathi.
