After the release of ‘Shikara’, certain section of people accused Chopra of commercialising the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in his recently released film.
When asked about backlashes Shikara is facing and if the filmmaker wants a rebuttal, Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, “We took 11 years of our life to make this film, Shikara. I feel today things are very funny because I make films which collects 30 crores on its first day (3 Idiots) and when I make a film which collects 30 lakhs (Shikara) on its first day in the memory of my mother then people say that I have commercialized pain of Kashmiri people so, I feel people who are thinking that way are donkeys and that’s why I want to tell you (students) don’t be donkeys. First see the film and then form your opinions about it.”
Further adding, Vidhu revealed the Avatar filmmaker James Cameron has praised his film and wrote a letter.
He added, “This film opened with great reviews everywhere. I presume you would have heard about a man called James Cameron who has directed ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’. He called this film as a masterpiece in a four page letter. And then, we come to India where film releases in full houses and great reviews.
Then, suddenly all this hate wave came.”
Shikara is produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, starring newbie Aadil Khan and Sadia. The film is based on the Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir.
