Srinagar. The national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir remained closed on Thursday due to landslide, while the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu and the historic Mughal road is open for vehicular traffic.
A traffic police officer told Univarta that traffic has been suspended on the Srinagar-Leh national highway due to landslides between Sonamarg and Dras in central Kashmir.
He said that the work to repair the affected areas on the highway is continuing and after fixing it the traffic will be resumed. According to official sources, a large number of ladakh bound vehicles, including trucks full of food items were stranded on the Sonamarg on the side of Zojila tunnel.
Similarly, vehicles that move towards Kashmir have been stoped in Dras and other places. Officials said that we are allowing vehicles at 5 am from Ladakh to Kashmir and vehicles from here to Zojila are being allowed to move. Passenger and light vehicles are permitted to operate on both sides with the Kashmir Valley . To prevent traffic jams and accidents, heavy vehicles are allowed to move from one side only.
