‘Suicide is the not the only solution to depression’: Akshay Babar

 

[Mumbai, Maharashtra 22nd June 2020] The untimely death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has raised various concerns within the country. One of the many highlights the topic of mental health. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 1,34,516 people committed suicide in the year 2018. In December 2017, The World Health Organisation estimated that one in seven Indians suffered from poor mental health and labelled the country as 'the most depressing country in the world'. The fact that a perfectly 'normal-looking' domestic help, watchman, cab driver, or the office colleague could be suffering from anxiety syndrome, depression, or paranoia is hardly given a serious thought.

In a recent conversation with social media influencer Akshay Babar, he shared his views and perception about mental health and ways to overcome depression. Akshay is of the opinion that suicide is not the only option to end one’s depression. He believes that it one accepting and choosing to address the problem is the first step to recovery. According to him, to maintain a healthy state of mind one needs to be more vocal about your feeling rather than bottling - up your emotions. There is no harm in visiting a psychologist if you have been suffering from depression, anxiety, or stress. Due to social stigmas that exist within our society, we often avoid speaking about our feelings and try suppressing this negative energy within us which in turn aggravates into depression. Another way to maintain one's mental health is yoga and exercise. Experts say that yoga is one of the most effective ways to calm one's mind and release all the negative energy that is within us.

Akshay often speaks about mental health on his social media platforms and creates fun content for his followers. He often encourages people to be vocal about their feelings and emotions. Like Akshay, let's all make an initiative to raise awareness about mental health and encourage others to do the same. Let's all work towards a better tomorrow where rather than committing suicide people choose to receive help and recover from problems like depression and stress.
