Top 8 Upcoming Car launches In 2018

A Large number of new launches are scheduled for the second half of this year in the Indian market. New cars across different segments have been launched in India over the past five months this year. The new launches range from the entry-level Datsun redi-GO AMT to Maruti Swift and Lamborghini Urus to Range Rover Evoque. This is only a part of what is in store for 2018. As a result of the growing demand for SUVs and compact sedans, more new vehicles with improved technology and safety features can be expected to be introduced in the coming months. Here is a brief overview of a few key launches for your ready reference:

Mitsubishi Outlander 

(Expected price – ₹31 lakh; Expected Launch – July 2018)

The new Outlander to be launched in India will be the first all-new model after six years from Mitsubishi. It comes fitted with a 2.4-litre petrol engine and All Wheel Drive (AWD) as in its previous models. In addition, it will have a third row of seats as in the new Honda CR-V.

Mitsubishi is not likely to offer several options for the third generation Outlander. The fully-loaded trim available would have features such as auto headlights, keyless go, and wipers; electric sunroof and parking brake; leather seats; one number 6.1-inch touchscreen entertainment system, dual-zone climate control, and Rockford Fosgate brand 710-watt sound system as standard fittings.

New Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 

(Expected price – ₹9 lakh; Expected Launch – June 2018)

The Japanese carmaker will give a facelift to its mid-range sedan by making use of the new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine instead of the 1.4-litre engine that is currently used. The diesel variant will have the in-house Suzuki-developed 1.5-litre engine for the first time, replacing the diesel engine sourced from Fiat. This is in addition to the interior and exterior cosmetic changes that will be brought about. The new look Ciaz will help Maruti compete with Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Verna, and Honda City on a more even platform.

Mahindra XUV700 

(Expected price – ₹21 lakh; Expected Launch – October 2018)

At the 2018 Auto Expo, Mahindra showcased its new launch G4 Rexton, which technically is the rebadged second generation Ssangyong Rexton distributed by the carmaker. The SUV with seven-seat configuration is likely to become the flagship vehicle of the carmaker after the launch. The XUV 700 will have a 4-cylinder, 2.2-litre, turbocharged diesel engine capable of generating 170PS power and 420Nm torque. The SUV with 7-speed automatic transmission is likely to be available both 2WD and 4WD options. Mahindra XUV 700 would give Ford Endeavour, Jeep Compass, and Toyota Fortuner a run for their money.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk 

(Expected price – ₹24 lakh; Booking open)

The manufacture of Trailhawk has already been started at the factory of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India Private Limited in Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. This range-topping trim of Compass is its more rugged version. It comes with several new features as well as off-road equipment. Currently, it is being exported to Japan and Australia. 

The Mahindra XUV 500 rival comes with 4WD technology. Active Drive Low-range for off-roading duties and the 'Rock mode' for Selec-Terrain 4WD system. The ground clearance is 20 mm more than the standard variant. Additionally, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk has the hill descent control as the standard feature.The great news is the launch of the nine-speed automatic diesel variant with 2.0 litre, 170hp engine for the first time.

Honda CR-V 

(Expected price - ₹25 lakh; Expected launch – August 2018)

Honda had displayed its new CR-V at the Auto Expo 2018. The uniqueness of the CR-V is its seven-seat configuration. The new Honda CR-V is the automaker’s fifth-generation model. Honda is expected to offer a 1.6 litre, 120hp diesel engine option. A nine-speed automatic variant is also expected to be introduced so that CR-V can compete with its rivals Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

The Honda CR-V 2018 fitted with a turbocharged engine for the very first time boasts of sophisticated new styling. In addition to more space, it comes with a versatile premium-quality interior, improved connectivity, convenience, and comfort.

Mahindra XUV300 

(Expected price – ₹11 lakh; Expected Launch – December 2018)

Mahindra is getting ready to introduce a new small-sized SUV, XUV300 to compete with mid-range SUVs such as Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. The Tivoli-inspired XUV300 is likely to be shorter than Ssangyong Tivoli. Further, Petrol and Diesel variants of the vehicle are likely to be made available by the carmaker. While the Petrol version will be fitted with the new 1500 CC TGDI engine, the Diesel variant will use the 1500 CC mHawk100 engine used in Mahindra TUV300 model.

Honda Civic 

(Expected price – ₹13 – 18 lakh; Expected Launch – August 2018)

Honda pulled back one of its popular models Civic from India in 2013 because of sluggish demand. Now that the carmaker has introduced the tenth generation models of Civic in the international markets, it is confident of bring back or re-launching the Civic in India. The petrol-powered premium sedan will compete with Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Superb, and Toyota Corolla Altis, among others. The good news is that a diesel variant of Civic will also be offered for the first time in this country.

Datsun Go-Cross 

(Expected price – ₹6 – 10 lakh; Expected Launch – August 2018)

The launch of the Go-Cross will help Datsun take advantage of India’s growing crossover segment. It is also likely to turn out to be the automaker’s flagship model. Datsun Go-Cross will be less than four meters in length, and it is not expected to be a seven-seater like the GO+ MPV. The 1.2-litre petrol will be same as that used on the hatchback and MPV. However, the diesel variant will borrow the 1.5-litre dCi engine from Nissan Micra. 

Finally, if you are planning to upgrade to an SUV or a buy a new high-end sedan, it is worth waiting for a little while so that you can start 2019 on a better note.
