Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur on Day 3 of WTC final 2023

The WTC 2023 Final has not been going well for India, as on Day 2 they are trail by 173 runs. Despite a collapse in the top order, Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur were able to stabilize the team and bring them to a more competitive position. Unfortunately, Team India's innings were plagued with umpiring errors, resulting in three reversals that gave Indian batters a second chance at bat.

How DRS Review saved Rahane, Thakur and Siraj to comeback in the inning
Ajinkya Rahane's remarkable comeback was nearly ruined by Pat Cummins when he dismissed him for a mere 17 runs. Despite being clearly in front of the wickets, Rahane opted to challenge the umpire's decision and called for a DRS review. To everyone's astonishment, it turned out that Cummins had overstepped the bowling line, making it a no-ball. This turn of events brought great relief to Indian fans.

Although it may seem like a rare occurrence, Ajinkya Rahane's survival is not an isolated incident. In fact, during the 60th over, Pat Cummins made the same mistake again. This time, it was Shardul Thakur who benefited from Cummins' error. The Australian captain overstepped the bowling line, resulting in the umpire's original out decision being overturned via DRS.

With the Indian batting line-up struggling, it was only a matter of time before the last wicket, which belonged to Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj, fell. Ultimately, Cameron Green delivered a stunning delivery that led to Siraj being caught in front of the wickets. Although the umpire had given him out, Siraj decided to request a review.

As David Warner and Steve Smith were walking back to the pavilion, they believed that DRS was ineffective. However, to the astonishment of everyone present, the use of the bat was detected, which forced the umpire to revise his ruling. Amidst laughter from the crowd, the Australian players returned to the field. It just goes to show how important it is to utilize technologies like DRS in cricket matches.

How many DRS reviews are there in Test?
The ICC has updated their rules, taking into consideration the COVID-19 era. As per the new regulations, every team will now be allotted three reviews per inning.
